WASHINGTON, DC (July 20, 2021) The McCain Institute for International Leadership at Arizona State University’s We Hold These Truths campaign is proud to launch Sustaining Democracy, a new digital initiative in collaboration with Countable. This campaign aims to identify current threats to American democracy while simultaneously offering tools to help fight back on topics including election law, misinformation, international threats to democracy and racial inequality. Sustaining Democracy seeks to educate the public on these issues as well as provide a platform for users to share their opinions and personal experiences.
“We Hold These Truths continues to reaffirm its commitment to human rights and democracy through the launch of this campaign,” said McCain Institute Senior Director for Human Rights and Democracy Paul Fagan. “This partnership with Countable will allow for more content to reach a larger audience and include a diverse group of voices and perspectives to the We Hold These Truths community.”
The McCain Institute launched the We Hold These Truths initiative to build a diverse and user-driven community focused on democracy and human rights in the United States and around the world. By connecting global issues to local ones, We Hold These Truths helps users better understand, connect, and put into perspective human rights abuses and threats to democratic norms. The platform also focuses on preventing domestic electoral violence, supporting local media efforts, and countering misinformation. By creating a conversation around each of these are core tenants of democracy, We Hold These Truths seeks to enhance the knowledge of the general public by reaching large and broad communities. We Hold These Truths is a nonpartisan effort of the McCain Institute and does not support or oppose any political candidate or party.
