“America Has Lost a Patriot”
WASHINGTON, D.C. – (March 27, 2024) The McCain Institute at Arizona State University today released statements from Board Member Jack McCain and Executive Director Dr. Evelyn Farkas following the passing of McCain Institute Board of Trustees Member and Former U.S. Senator Joseph I. Lieberman.
“America has lost a patriot, and our family has lost a dear friend. In a dangerous world, Senator Lieberman understood the essential role of American leadership. He frequently was my dad’s partner promoting our nation’s values and interests abroad, often as part of the trio known as the ‘Three Amigos.’ Fiercely independent, Senator Lieberman recognized the need to put country over party. Perhaps no one embodied my father’s belief in service over self-interest more than Senator Lieberman” – Jack McCain, McCain Institute Board of Trustees
“Senator Lieberman’s sudden passing is a deep loss for the McCain Institute. A founding board member, he served as a guiding force, and living example of service-above-self. He was an enthusiastic cheerleader and stalwart supporter. As a senior staff member on the Senate Armed Services Committee and a volunteer on his vice-presidential campaign, I had the privilege of working with Senator Lieberman and witnessing his principled, bipartisan leadership in action. We are all saddened to have lost such an inspirational statesman.” – Dr. Evelyn Farkas, McCain Institute Executive Director
