WASHINGTON, D.C. – The McCain Institute at Arizona State University (ASU) today announced the appointment of Jennifer Faust as chief operating officer (COO) and the promotion of Kristen Leanderson Abrams to chief program officer (CPO).
A former non-profit executive director/CEO and an international development and democracy specialist, Faust brings 30 years of hands-on grassroots and policy expertise in the U.S. and globally. As COO, Faust will partner with the McCain Institute’s executive director in leading fiscal and operational sustainability, future direction, and organizational growth.
“In addition to her decades of policy and strategic experience, Jennifer is also a dedicated public servant who has volunteered in the Peace Corps and continues to champion gender equity for women and girls around the world,” said McCain Institute Executive Director Dr. Evelyn Farkas. “The character-driven leadership Jennifer exhibits is exactly what Senator McCain had in mind when he spoke about serving a cause greater than oneself. I look forward to working together to advance the McCain Institute’s mission of creating a world that is more free, safe, and just for all people.”
“I am grateful for the years I spent working in public policy and in rights advocacy, and this new position will allow me to focus on scaling McCain Institute’s impact and core democratic values by making it an even stronger institution,” said Faust. “I am honored to be part of a brilliant team dedicated to Senator McCain and his family’s fight to advance democracy, human dignity, and security.”

She has a deep understanding of the McCain Institute and will infuse our programmatic work with fresh energy and strategic guidance to increase impact,” said Dr. Farkas. “Kristen recently led the creation of the newly expanded Human Rights & Freedom Program after initiating a strategy review of the previous program and its long-term goals for growth and impact, an example of the leadership she will bring to our other programs. For seven years, Kristen has dedicated herself to advancing human rights, freedom, and the values that were important to Senator McCain. Her promotion is well-earned and will help catapult the McCain Institute into an even more impactful second decade.”
