Cohort first to include all Five Eyes Alliance partners
The McCain Institute at Arizona State University (ASU) is proud to announce the 2024 class of its National Security & Counterterrorism Fellowship (NSCT), featuring the first cohort with all Five Eyes (FVEY) countries represented.
Designed by former Director of the U.S. National Counterterrorism Center Nick Rasmussen and executed in partnership with the National Security College of the Australian National University (ANU), the NSCT Fellowship unites a group of the most promising rising leaders engaged in national security and counterterrorism work from the countries that comprise the Five Eyes intelligence alliance: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
“Through our NSCT Fellowship, the McCain Institute is harnessing the power of the Five Eyes partnership and equipping young leaders with practical experience and relationship-building that will help them address the global security threats of tomorrow,” said McCain Institute Executive Director Dr. Evelyn Farkas.
The 2024 cohort of NSCT fellows includes 16 young leaders – 11 women and five men – who hail from the U.S. Army, U.K. Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Australian Federal Police, the New Zealand Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, Global Affairs Canada, and more. This program provides mentorship, networking, and professional development experiences for the fellows who have been chosen based on a track record of leadership, distinction, and achievement in national security and counterterrorism.

The 2024 fellowship experience will take place throughout the 2024 calendar year with three week-long visits to Five Eyes capitals, starting with Washington, D.C. February 26 – March 1, 2024. The cohort will convene in Canberra in late summer 2024 and London in winter 2024.
“No other program provides the breadth and depth of access to professionals at the top of the national security field,” said former U.S. fellow Ben Snyder. “The modules allowed us to have discussions with leaders in a way that made their successes and challenges seem approachable and human. I consistently recommend this fellowship to peers and look forward to maintaining the network we’ve built.”
