UNSILENCED: A Conversation with Justice Defenders on Shaping Africa’s Future

The McCain Institute invites you to watch the Democracy program event titled “UNSILENCED: A Conversation with Justice Defenders on Shaping Africa’s Future.” Click to watch the panel discussion on the struggles and triumphs of justice defenders from the often ‘forgotten’ countries in Africa.

Human rights activists are facing unprecedented repression around the globe. African human rights defenders often go unnoticed in the global conversation where attention is focused on China, Ukraine/Russia, and the Middle East. This event focused on how African human rights defenders are dealing with internal and external pressures. Crises in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo continue to draw attention, but many other countries are facing challenges and crises. The participants discussed the problems they face and how they see their efforts shaping the future of Africa.

This event not only aimed to spotlight the critical issues faced by these defenders but also sought to understand the broader geopolitical impacts that affect their work. It’s an opportunity to hear firsthand about their daily challenges and the support they need to continue their advocacy.
