Egypt
Eman El-Abd is an economist in the office of the Egyptian Minister of Finance. She studies and analyzes development and economic issues in order to provide policy recommendations to the Minister and his colleagues. El-Abd seeks to find solutions to the constraints facing the development of small and medium enterprises in Egypt that are hindering the movement of these enterprises from the informal sector to the formal.
El-Abd was one of the four recipients of the 2018 McCain Institute Catalyst Grant for her work in the growth of these small enterprises. She focused on the transition and growth of M/SMEs from the informal sector to the formal sector along with women’s involvement in the economy. El-Abd used her Catalyst Grant to establish micro tailored enterprises for women and provided necessary training programs to encourage employees to enter or return to the formal job market.
