Albania
Dael Dervishi is the former executive director of the National Agency of Natural Resources in Albania. In this role, Dervishi supervised the exploitation of Albania’s natural resources, including mining, hydropower, and petroleum. He oversees reform of the country’s mining sector, which has been largely informal. An attorney by training, he previously served as director of the Legal Department in Albania’s National Agency of Natural Resources and was general secretary for the Albanian Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Energy. Dervishi seeks to reform the Albanian natural resource sector in order to stimulate the economy and promote transparency in government.
Dervishi was one of the four recipients of the 2019 McCain Institute Catalyst Grant, which he received to develop a professional advertising strategy, publicizing his leadership training initiative in Albania. Through this strategy, he developed his program into one of Albania’s most influential, engaging over a thousand Albanian citizens, many of them young people. As part of his successful strategy, Albanian national news covered his leadership program and many prominent Albanian political leaders participated as guest speakers.
Dervishi is also a recipient of the COVID-19 In The Arena Grant. He will use this micro-grant to support the Global Albanian Foundation’s Facebook fundraising campaign to provide PPE to Albanian doctors and nurses on the front lines.
