Singapore
For over a decade, Alex Lew has distinguished himself as a fervent advocate for migrant rights in Singapore. In his current role as Survey Executive at the Ministry of Manpower, he continues his dedication to humanitarian work, focusing on improving the lives and perceptions of migrant workers in his home country.
Alex's passion for social justice is evident in his pioneering work with Migrant Library Singapore, a nonprofit organization he co-founded in 2017. As the only Singaporean citizen on the team, Alex has been instrumental in providing a platform for migrants to connect with locals through book clubs and the shared love of reading. Since its inception, Migrant Library Singapore has reached over 17,700 migrant workers and raised more than $3,000 to support its initiatives.
His efforts extend beyond the library. Through his involvement with Youth Corps Singapore, Alex aims to bridge the gap between local youths and migrant workers, fostering understanding and meaningful interactions. His commitment to this cause has earned him numerous accolades, including the YALPI 2020 Top Policy Initiator Award from Chulalongkorn University.
Alex's contributions to the community are multifaceted. He has participated in Asia Pacific Week at the Australian National University, the ASEAN-Korean Youth Network Workshop, and HPAIR. His leadership was evident as the sponsorship head for Youth Expedition Projects to Jakarta and Phnom Penh, funded by the National Youth Council of Singapore. Additionally, Alex has been involved with the YMCA Youth regional conference, where he contributed to the social entrepreneurship task force, and has served on the steering committee of Common Purpose and the content committee for SG100 COMPASS Dream Future Forum.
With an unwavering commitment to social causes, Alex Lew continues to inspire and drive change, advocating for the rights and dignity of migrant workers while fostering a more inclusive society in Singapore.
