The McCain Institute at Arizona State University hosted a series of U.S. democracy focused events this fall in the lead up to the November 2024 elections. The democracy tour underscored the links between foreign policy, national security, youth leadership, and American democracy. Events ranged in topic from AI’s impact on elections and countering mis- and dis-information to American leadership abroad and preventing the rise of authoritarianism. Wisconsin | October 29-30, 2024

The McCain Institute at Arizona State University (ASU) held events in Madison and Milwaukee, Wisc., featuring young democracy activists from across the globe sharing their stories and emphasizing the critical right to vote and participate in a free and democratic society.

Washington, D.C. | October 23, 2024

“Strengthening Democracy with Media Literacy: A National Security Imperative,” brought together experts from media literacy, cybersecurity, and academia to discuss how media literacy interventions build resilience to misinformation threats and protect democracy. 

Lancaster, Pennsylvania | October 22, 2024

Executive Director of the McCain Institute at Arizona State University (ASU) Dr. Evelyn Farkas joined panelists at Franklin & Marshall College in Pennsylvania on October 22 to discuss foreign policy issues that could be impacted by the 2024 election. 

Phoenix, Arizona | October 17, 2024

“AI + 2024 Elections: Navigating A Messy Information Space,” was a conversation co-hosted by the McCain Institute at Arizona State University (ASU) and the Alliance for Securing Democracy. The event took place on Thursday, October 17, at ASU’s Phoenix Campus.

Washington, D.C. | September 18, 2024

The McCain Institute hosted the launch of the report, “Defending American Democracy in the Digital Age.” This hybrid public event occurred on Wednesday, September 18, from 10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. ET at the McCain Institute at the Barrett & O’Connor Center in Washington, D.C.. Written in partnership with the Cronkite School for Journalism and Mass Communication, the report sheds light on the growing threats posed by disinformation campaigns targeting our core institutions and American democratic values.
