Ismail Akwei is an international journalist, digital media specialist, media viability consultant, media trainer, product manager, editor, writer, and media manager with over a decade of experience working with multinational media companies worldwide. He is the Executive Director of the Media Literacy Development Foundation, a non-profit organisation he founded out of his passion for advancing democratic values through media literacy and community development. The Foundation promotes democratic inclusion through media and artificial intelligence literacy education in Ghana. The foundation runs programmes such as Zongo Media which aims to equip youth of underserved inner cities of Ghana with media literacy and entrepreneurial skills for them to access, analyze, evaluate, and create messages in various forms, including print, video, audio, and social media to build their capacities as media entrepreneurs, communicators and change agents. Other programmes run by the foundation include the Junior Journalists and Communicators Club (J2C2) which empowers high school students to develop journalism and communication skills to advance inclusive democracy.
