Michael Culhane Harper is a partner in the Washington D.C. office of the global law firm, K&L Gates. Michael is an experienced trilingual white-collar lawyer with extensive global experience working on high-profile individual and corporate matters dealing with US laws with extraterritorial reach, including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and federal criminal statutes pertaining to antitrust or money laundering violations and other financial frauds.
Prior to joining K&L Gates, Michael served seven years as a Federal Prosecutor at the Department of Justice, where he spearheaded some of the most significant and complex international bribery and money laundering cases against publicly traded and privately held companies, board members and executives, finance professionals, lawyers, and high-level foreign government officials. His investigations spanned the globe and involved extensive interactions with prosecutorial and regulatory authorities abroad.
During his time in public service, Michael also worked on rule of law efforts with the Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (“INL”). Michael’s work with INL involved in-country training of foreign prosecutors on investigating and prosecuting complex anti-corruption and money laundering matters.
Prior to public service, Michael spent seven years working for another global law firm, most of which was spent in firm's São Paulo, Brazil office. He has extensive experience throughout Latin America.
As a young professional, Michael had the great honor of interning for Senator McCain in his senate offices in Arizona and Washington D.C. Michael also worked in the legal department of Senator McCain’s 2008 Presidential Campaign, and it was on that campaign he met his wife, Ashley.
Michael, a native of Phoenix, Arizona, graduated from Boston College with degrees in History and Communications and received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. He lives in Virginia with his wife and three children.
