Democracy
Georgia Bernbaum is the McCain Institute’s Summer 2024 Democracy Junior Fellow. A rising senior and Bonner Scholar at Washington and Lee University, she is completing her B.A. in Global Politics with minors in Poverty and Human Capabilities Studies and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Academically, her research focuses on the determinants and remedies of political violence, both here and abroad. Georgia is especially interested in the ways governments balance protecting their security interests with advancing human rights.
She is committed to public service and has interned with multiple organizations in both the non-profit and government sectors. For the last two years, Georgia has worked as an Economic Empowerment Grant Advisor for The Pollination Project, which funds local changemakers around the world. Most recently, she served as the communications intern in the Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service’s Office of Anti-Terrorism Assistance (ATA), where she published an article about women’s growing roles in the ATA program. She will begin an internship with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) in the fall.
After graduation, Georgia intends to move to Washington, D.C., and pursue a career in national security.
