We remember the tremendous individuals who helped establish and shape the trajectory of the McCain Institute.
U.S. Senators Joe Lieberman and John McCain were two-thirds of the trio known as the “Three Amigos.” The two bonded quickly in the halls of the Senate over their shared views on foreign policy. They traveled the world, promoting America’s values and interests abroad, exemplifying bipartisanship. Senator Lieberman served on the McCain Institute Board of Trustees from its founding and was a dear friend to
the McCain Family.
Phil Handy had a passion for politics and served as an instrumental advisor and senior leader in the campaigns of several U.S. presidential candidates, including Senator John McCain. He co-chaired Senator McCain’s Florida Presidential Campaign and served as chairman of Senator McCain’s National Policy Council on Education. Phil helped create and launch
the McCain Institute.
