Narelle Parris has been a member of the Australian Federal Police (AFP) for 12 years and currently leads the AFP’s response in Countering Violent Extremism. This includes national coordination of the agency’s community liaison footprint and developing complex strategies for prevention, intervention and diversion.
Narelle commenced her career in local law enforcement in Australia’s national capital and progressed to leading complex investigations at a national and international level. A designated detective, she has extensive experience in investigations and has led delivery of national security and transnational serious and organized crime operational outcomes throughout her career.
Formerly deployed to the AFP’s Crisis Hostage and Negotiation Operations, Narelle contributed to Australia’s whole of government response to international incidents as a crisis negotiator and has delivered negotiation training to international law enforcement partners.
Narelle has been awarded excellence accolades in the fields of negotiation and detective training. She holds a master’s degree in leadership and management and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Narelle is committed to ongoing learning and is currently completing a Juris Doctor.
