WASHINGTON, D.C. (January 19, 2025) – The McCain Institute at Arizona State University today issued the following statement from Executive Director Dr. Evelyn Farkas regarding the Gaza ceasefire agreement:
“The Gaza ceasefire agreement is a long overdue development in this devastating conflict. I am hopeful that all Israeli hostages will soon be released by the Hamas terrorists and critical humanitarian aid will reach civilians in Gaza. During this pause in fighting, the global community must act swiftly to deliver critical food aid, restore public health operations, identify long-term solutions for those displaced within Gaza, and ensure the lasting security of Israelis and Palestinians. The McCain Institute calls for adherence to the temporary agreement and commitment to continued negotiations to build a lasting peace based on a two-state solution, as well as an end to the threat posed by Iran to the state of Israel and the Israeli people. The McCain Institute will continue to advocate for the protection and support of innocent civilians caught in the crossfire of the conflict, including our 2022 McCain Global Leader Reham AlSaidi, who remains in Gaza.”
